House of Prayer

Posted by travelingrant (Kanazawa, Japan) on 21 July 2007 in Landscape & Rural.

This is an example of the Gasshō-zukuri style of traditional construction. It literally means Praying Hands Style, as each house does look like a pair of hands, clasped in prayer. This is also another sky replacement, but not quite the cheat of the last one. Here, the sky I swapped in was taken at the same time on the same day, just at a different, better, exposure. Still doesn't look quite real, but looks a lot better than the pasty, blown out sky of the original photograph.
